About Me
My name is Natalie, and I have over 20 years of experience, with 10 of these years at a world-renowned school that only serves students with learning differences/disabilities. The students I work with have diagnoses such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, receptive and expressive language disorder, ADHD, and others. I am a Reading Therapist and a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), which means I have extensive training and experience that qualifies me to work with students who have difficulties with literacy, especially students with language-based learning disabilities and learning differences. I have completed over 200 hours of Masters level courses at Neuhaus Education Center, 700 clinical hours, 10 hours of videotaped demonstration lessons, supervised practicums, and much more as a graduate of Neuhaus’ Reading Therapist Preparation Program. I am honored that I was featured in “Houston's Most Inspiring Stories” in VoyageHouston Magazine and in the “Legacies” portion of CanvasRebel Magazine.
Training and Approach:
I have extensive experience with peer-reviewed, research-based programs for students with learning differences and apply a Structured Literacy approach. My experience includes Neuhaus, William Van-Cleave, Lindamood-Bell, RAVE-O, LETRS, and other programs. I received first-rate training from experts in the field throughout my career and continue to attend trainings and conferences consistently. I am Neuhaus-trained from Neuhaus Education Center, which offers Orton-Gillingham based Structured Literacy training. I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association, the Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), and The National Tutoring Association.
Leadership & Experience:
I moved into the Resource Teacher position for students with learning differences from Primary Teacher for students with learning differences due to my skill set. My abilities allowed students who struggled in an already specialized environment a more intensive instructional setting to thrive. I was also able to challenge students who needed enhanced instruction. Prior to working mainly in private schools for students with learning differences, I worked in a public school setting for four years
Administration and co-workers recognized my passion, dedication, and talent. I was selected for numerous leadership positions, including Head of Reading Curriculum Department. One of my roles as Head of Reading Curriculum Department was to provide teacher training due to my expertise. I was honored to serve as Director of Summer Program, Team Leader, and a Mentor Teacher, and these were only a few of my many roles throughout my career. I received multiple accolades in public and private schools, such as being nominated ESL Teacher of the Year two years in a row. In addition to being a Reading Therapist, CALT and a member of ALTA, I am certified in Special Education, EC-4, and ESL.
“Our family had the pleasure of meeting and working with Natalie when our daughter was in third grade. Our daughter,Maeve, still refers to her as her “favorite teacher ever.” Maeve has dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. Natalie was not only educated about these learning differences she was able to teach Maeve using methods and techniques that allowed her to excel. Natalie is an energetic, caring and patient teacher that changed Maeve’s outlook on school.”
